Police Search for Killers of 87-Year-Old Woman in Kwale






Detectives have launched a manhunt for the killers of an 87-year-old woman in Lungalunga, Kwale County.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported on Monday that the lifeless body of the elderly woman was found in her bed on Sunday in Mwololo village.

The DCI stated that the heinous crime was committed by a robber or robbers who invaded the woman’s home to steal a goat. "In the abominable incident reported by the village chairperson, the elderly woman was found lying dead on her bed with multiple cuts suspected to have been inflicted by a machete, and her only goat stolen by yet-to-be-identified violent robbers," the DCI said.

Detectives based in Lungalunga have taken over the investigation. The DCI director added that the officers are working in collaboration with authorities in the Mwereni location to search the area for the killers.

In another case, on July 4, the DCI reported the arrest of a female suspect linked to the murder of a woman in Kalimani village, Kathunguni subcounty, Kitui County.

Lucy Kambu Mwenda was murdered on May 22, 2024. The DCI reported that her lifeless body was discovered lying in a pool of blood outside her property’s perimeter fence, having been stabbed twice in the back of her head. A blood-stained machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was found at the scene.

"After days of intelligence gathering and analysis, officers embarked on a meticulous pursuit of the main suspect. Their efforts paid off when the suspect, traveling aboard a white canter truck from Mombasa to Nairobi, was captured," the DCI stated.

The suspect was arraigned at the Kitui Law Courts and remanded at Kitui GK Prison.

"The case is slated for mention and possible plea-taking on July 23, 2024," the DCI added.
